What is nitro cold brew?

Cold brew infused with nitrogen gas through a pressurized tap or charged whipper. Nitrogen creates tiny, persistent bubbles — think Guinness stout — producing a creamy mouthfeel, cascading visual effect, and naturally sweet flavor without dairy. The drink that made cold brew an Instagram star.

You'll need

  • Whipped cream dispenser (iSi) or nitro tap setup
  • N2 (nitrogen) charger — not N2O
  • Pre-made cold brew concentrate, diluted
  • Stemmed glass
  • 100 g fresh Seelaz coffee — Browse our coffees

Step by step

1

Brew cold brew concentrate

Steep 100 g coarse-ground coffee in 800 g water for 12–18 hours. Strain through cheesecloth and paper filter. You want a clean, strong concentrate.

2

Pour into whipper

Dilute concentrate 1:1 with cold water. Fill the cream whipper to the max line (typically 500 ml). Cold liquid only — chill the whipper too.

3N2

Charge with N2 (nitrogen)

Insert a nitrogen N2 charger (NOT nitrous oxide N2O). Screw in until you hear gas release. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds to dissolve nitrogen.

4

Let it rest 15 minutes

Refrigerate the charged whipper. Nitrogen needs time to integrate into the liquid for the cascading effect.

5

Dispense and watch the cascade

Hold the whipper upside down at a 45-degree angle over a glass. Pull the trigger. Coffee cascades like Guinness with a creamy nitrogen head.

Pro tips

  • NITRO is N2. Whipped cream N2O makes it sweet and milky — wrong vibe.
  • Don't add ice. Nitrogen needs the coffee cold, but ice dilutes the magic.
  • Best within 4 hours of charging. After that, nitrogen escapes and the effect fades.
